What's about?
As part of Swiss Money Week 2026 (16–22 March), the exchange operator SIX, the Swiss Finance Museum, and the Swiss National Bank’s (SNB) education programme iconomix launched a stock market simulation for vocational and upper secondary schools.
Within the framework of the Investment Strategy Contest, classes from Swiss upper secondary schools (Gymnasium, BMS) as well as vocational schools can develop and test investment strategies free of charge on the VirtualAlpha platform over a period of six months. Students create virtual portfolios, track current market prices, and reflect on their decisions.
In this way, they gain hands-on experience of how financial markets function and understand the importance of long-term investing. A jury composed of representatives from SIX, the Swiss National Bank (SNB), and experts from the fields of media and education evaluates the teams’ submissions. The award ceremony is planned for March 2027 at the SIX ConventionPoint in Zurich.
Following a pilot phase during the 2026/2027 school year, the contest is intended to be rolled out nationwide across Switzerland.
